Summer has officially arrived in Austin. With weather averaging in the mid 90s, you must be a crazy person to want to make things even hotter by cooking via grilling outside. But that’s exactly what I have decided to do now that I’m in my 6th month with my new-ish Weber charcoal grill. There are always many activities to be found around the town in Austin, especially during the summer. We were invited by our friends to go to a outdoor concert in Zilker Park called “Blues On the Green” this past Wednesday evening. Zilker Park is a recreational area just south of downtown Austin near Barton springs and Lady Bird Lake where thousands of people visit on weekends to hike, play frisbee, or hang out with their kids and dogs. This quick and easy red pepper and walnut dip is good as an appetizer; like a pesto, it can be used as a spread on sandwiches, and also added to stews as a flavor enhancer.

When grocery shopping at Whole Foods, I saw that they had some great whole Spanish Mackerels for $6.99 a LB. A lot of recipes from Ferran Adria’s family style cookbook uses whole fish and specially Spanish Mackerel, and I had wondered when I would be able to get some so I can try his recipes. I thought whole fishes would be expensive, but one fish turned out to be exactly one pound, and my whole meal for 2 was less than $10! Imagine a Ferran Adria dish for 2 for $10….
